Saving Tiny Teeth with Gentle Care
At Tooth Patrol Pediatric Dentistry, we know how important every baby tooth is—especially when it comes to protecting your child’s long-term oral health. That’s why we offer pulp therapy, also known as a pulpotomy or baby root canal, as a gentle and effective way to save an infected baby tooth.
Pulp therapy is a minimally invasive dental procedure used when a baby tooth has an infection or inflammation inside the pulp—the soft inner part of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. Rather than remove the entire tooth, our team gently cleans and treats the damaged area to relieve pain, prevent further infection, and protect the healthy portion of the tooth.
Most importantly, saving a baby tooth helps:
-
Maintain proper spacing for adult teeth
-
Support your child’s speech and chewing
-
Protect the developing permanent tooth underneath
When Is a Pulpotomy Needed?
We may recommend pulp therapy if your child:
-
Has a large cavity that has reached the nerve
-
Complains of tooth pain or sensitivity
-
Has swelling or signs of infection around a baby tooth
-
Experiences trauma to a tooth
Our board-certified pediatric dentists, Dr. Gary and Dr. Jas, will gently examine your child and use low-dose digital X-rays to determine if pulp therapy is the best option.

What to Expect During the Procedure
Pulp therapy at Tooth Patrol is quick, safe, and kid-friendly. We use comforting techniques and offer sedation dentistry options if needed to ensure your child feels at ease every step of the way. Our goal is to make the experience as stress-free as possible—many children return to their normal activities the very same day! Throughout the visit, we talk your child through each step in friendly, reassuring language so they feel confident and cared for.
Here’s how it works:
-
The infected part of the pulp is carefully removed.
-
The inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.
-
A white crown is placed over the tooth to restore its strength and protect it until it’s naturally ready to fall out.
